How to Manage Credit Sales with Ease

Set limits, track dues and follow up on time — without awkward conversations.

A distributor and a customer shake hands over a deal

1. Set Terms Before the First Bill

Agree two things with every credit customer: how much they can owe at most (the credit limit) and how many days they have to pay each bill. Write them down. It is far easier to hold to terms agreed at the start than to invent them when dues have grown.

2. Keep the Khata Right Every Day

Every invoice adds to what a customer owes; every payment and credit note takes it down. Record payments the day they come in, and clear the oldest bills first — then you always know which bills are overdue and by how many days.

3. Follow Up on a Fixed Day

Pick a day each week to go through dues, oldest first. Send each customer a statement and a short, polite reminder with the amount and a UPI link. Regular, friendly reminders work better than an angry call once a month.

4. Hold Orders Past the Limit

When a customer's order would take them past their limit, pause it and talk to them before you deliver. A good customer will usually pay something to release it.

Conclusion

Credit is how most supply businesses grow — and how many lose money. Clear terms, a khata kept right every day and a weekly habit of following up keep it on your side.
